युग परिवर्तन के साथ-साथ परिस्थितियों में भी परिवर्तन होता रहता है।जिस समय जिस प्रकार की परिस्थितियां होती हैं, उसी प्रकार के ही नियम-धर्म आदि से कल्याण हो सकता है। वैदिक साहित्य में मनुष्य-वर्ग की चार जातियां वर्णन हुई हैं-ब्राह्मण,  क्षत्रिय, वैश्य और शूद्र। ब्राह्मण का कार्य वेदों का पठन-पाठन तथा पूजा-पाठ करके जनहित करना था। क्षत्रिय का कार्य तीनों वर्णों की रक्षा करना था अर्थात् ब्राह्मण, वैश्य, शूद्र- इन जातियों को यदि कोई सताये अथवा इन पर अपना पराक्रम दिखाये, तो क्षत्रिय वर्ग के लोग अपना कर्त्तव्य समझ कर दुष्टों से इनकी रक्षा करते थे। वैश्य वाणिज्य-व्यापार तथा खेती-बाडी आदि से तीनों वर्णां की सहायता करते थे। इन सबकी सेवा करना शूद्रों का धर्म होता था। अर्जुन चूंकि क्षत्रिय था, इसलिये भगवान श्रीकृष्ण उसको समझाते हुए कथन करते हैं कि :-

कर्त्तव्य पथ को छोडना, इसका बुरा परिणाम है।

प्राण कर देना न्यौछावर, क्षत्रिय की शान है।।

ऐ अर्जुन ! क्षत्रिय होने के नाते युद्ध करना तेरा कर्त्तव्य है। जो मनुष्य अपने कर्त्तव्य पथ का त्याग कर देता है, उसे महान विपत्तियों का सामना करना पडता है। क्षत्रिय की शान रणक्षेत्र में जाकर शत्रु का सामना करना तथा शूरवीरता दिखलाना है।

With the change of age, circumstances also change. At the same time, the same type of circumstances, the same rules, religion etc. can lead to welfare. Four castes of the human class have been described in Vedic literature - Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras. The Brahmin's task was to read and read the Vedas and to make them public. The work of the Kshatriyas was to protect the three varnas i.e. Brahmins, Vaishyas, Shudras - If any of these castes persecute or show their might over them, then the people of the Kshatriya class considered it their duty to protect them from the wicked. The Vaishyas used to help all the three varnas from commerce, trade and agriculture. It was the religion of the Shudras to serve them all. Since Arjuna was a Kshatriya, therefore Lord Krishna explained to him that he said: 

Leaving the duty path has its bad consequences.

It is the pride of the Kshatriyas, to die.

Hey Arjun! Being a Kshatriya, it is your duty to fight. A man who abandons his duty path has to face great calamities. The pride of the Kshatriya is to go to the battlefield and face the enemy and show valor.
