महापुरूष माया में ग्रसित जीव को सत्पथ दर्शाते हैं और आत्मा का स्वरूप समझाते हुए उसे इस परम तत्व को जानने का उपदेश देते हैं कि ऐ जीव! तेरा निज स्वरूप देह नहीं आत्मा है। तू आत्मस्वरूप, सुखों का भण्डार तथा अमृत का स्रोत है। यह सुख, अमृत तथा आनन्द तेरे अन्तर में विद्यमान है तू उसकी घट में खोज कर। उस तट पर पहुंच, जहां पहुंचने पर तुझे सत्य-असत्य, लाभ-हानि, अपने-पराये का विवेक स्वयमेव हो जाये। उस आत्म आनन्द के अमृत को पी, जिसको पी लेने पर दुःखों का सदा के लिये अन्त हो जाये और आवागमन से त्राण मिले। वह आत्मा क्या है?

इसके चमत्कारों को सुनकर, सोचता यह क्या विषय।

समझ न आ पाती किसी को, वास्तव में क्या है यह।।

आत्म-तत्व का ज्ञाता इसके चमत्कारों का देख-देख कर आश्चर्यचकित हो इसे देखता ही रह जाता है, परन्तु मुंह से कुछ कहते नहीं बनता। यदि कोई इसका वर्णन करने भी लगता है तो बस आश्चर्य से इतना ही कह पाता है कि इसकी महिमा बुद्धि और वाणी से परे है। कुछ आत्म-तत्व के साधन में लगे हुये इसकी महिमा सुनते हैं, तो सोचने लगते हैं कि यह क्या वस्तु है जिसका वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता?

इसके विषय में कोई अमृत का स्रोत, कोई शाश्वत ज्योति का भंडार तो कोई अजर, अमर, अजन्मा, सर्वव्यापक तका अविकारी कहकर इसकी महिमा करते हैं। तभी तो महापुरूषों ने कहा है कि हजारों सू और चन्द्रमाओं की आभा भी इस ज्योति के सम्मुख मन्द या फीकी है।

जीव जिस विषय को सुनता है, उसे बुद्धि द्वारा सोचता है, पुनः चित्त उसकी ओर आकृष्ट होकर उसे प्राप्त करने के लिये लालायित होता है। इस प्रकार जिस जिज्ञासु के हृदय में उस आत्मा के स्वरूप  को देखने की इच्छा जागृत हो जाती है, वह महापुरूषों द्वारा बतलाई गई विधि अनुसार साधना में संलग्न होकर आत्मा के परमतत्व का साक्षात्कार कर लेता है।

You are a form of self-realization, a storehouse of happiness and a source of nectar. This happiness, nectar and joy is present in your space, you search for it in its presence. The knowledgeer of the self-element is surprised to see its miracles and keeps looking at it, but does not say anything with the mouth. If anyone even starts to describe it, then only he can say with surprise that its glory is beyond intelligence and speech. Some listen to its glory while engaged in the means of self-essence, then they start thinking that what is this thing that cannot be described?

About it, the source of some nectar, some the store of eternal light, some glorify it as Ajar, immortal, unborn, omnipotent and invisible. That is why the great men have said that the aura of thousands of suns and moons is also dim or dull in front of this light.

The person who hears the subject thinks of it with wisdom, again the mind is attracted to him and is eager to get it. In this way, the curious person whose heart is awakened to see the form of that soul, he engages in cultivation according to the method described by the great men, and interviews the soul's fineness.
