भक्तिमती शबरी जी की पूर्व जन्म की कथा
कहते
हैं कि शबरी अपने पूर्व जन्म में सत्युग के प्रतापी महाराजा मान्धाता की पत्नी थी
और अत्यन्त रूपवती थी जिस
कारण महाराजा मान्धाता उस पर प्राणपन से मोहित था और एक पल के लिये भी रानी को
अपनी आंखों से दूर करने की उसकी इच्छा न होती थी। राजदरबार में भी जब मान्धाता
बैठा होता तो उसके मन मस्तिष्क पर
रानी का सुन्दर रूप और मदमाता यौवन छाया रहता।
रानी का प्रभु प्रेम में तन्मय रहना
उधर रानी की दशा यह थी कि बाल्यकाल
से ही उसके अन्दर भक्ति का बीज पडा हुआ था क्योंकि उसके माता-पिता भगवान के अनन्य भक्त थे। बाल्यकाल से ही रानी भगवान् की पूजा
आराधना प्रेम एवं श्रद्धापूर्वक किया करती थी जिससे
यौवन में पदार्पण करते-करते भक्ति के संस्कार उसके हृदय में पूरी तरह दृढ हो गये
थे अतएव विवाह के उपरान्त भी उसके इस नियम
में कोई अन्तर नहीं आया।
महाराजा मान्धाता का भोग विलास में लिप्त होना
यद्यपि
महाराजा मान्धाता ने उसे भोग-विलास के रस में डुबाने का भरसक प्रयत्न किया परन्तु
जिसने प्रभु प्रेम और प्रभु भक्ति के दिव्य रस का आनन्द ले लिया हो वह
भला विषय रसों की ओर कहां आकर्षित हो सकता है।
एक
दिन की बात है कि महाराजा मान्धाता के मन में काम-वासना ने बहुत जोर पकडा और वह उस
वासना के अधीन रानी के महल में चला गया। रानी उस समय भगवान् की पूजा-आराधना में
संलग्न थी। रानी के महल में जाने पर मान्धाता को दासियों से पता चला कि रानी इस
समय पूजा-गृह में है। किन्तु उस समय मान्धाता काम के इतने अधीन हो रहा था कि वह
अपनी विवेक-शक्ति पूरी तरह खो चुका था अतएव
वह पूजा-गृह के अन्दर चला गया। रानी उस समय आंखे बन्द किये प्रभू का ध्यान कर रही
थी।
मान्धाता उसे इस स्थिति में देखकर एक पल तो झिझका परन्तु
फिर बेकाबू होकर उसने रानी का हाथ पकड लिया और झटके से उठाकर उसे अपने साथ चलने पर
विवश करने लगा। रानी ने उसे बहुत समझाया परन्तु
मान्धाता के मन-मस्तिष्क पर तो क्योंकि उस समय विकार का भूत सवार था अतः
रानी की बातों को उस पर तनिक भी असर न हुआ। सत्य है-
।।दोहा।।
कामी मति भिष्टल सदा, चलै चाल विपरीत।
सील नहिं सहजो कहै, नैनन माहिं अनीत।।
अर्थ
:- कामी मनुष्य की बुद्धि सदा भ्रष्ट रहती है और वह सदा आचार-विचार के विपरीत
व्यवहार करता है। सन्त सहजो बाई जी का कथन है कि उसकी आंखों में शील का अभाव होता
है, क्योंकि वह सदा अनीति के मार्ग पर चलता
है।
मान्धाता
की भी उस समय ऐसी ही दशा थी। वह भी नीति-अनीति, सदाचार-कदाचार, समय-असमय
सब कुछ भूल गया था, क्योंकि विकार ने उस समय
उसे बिल्कुल अन्धा कर दिया था।
रानी का विष खाकर अपनी जीवन लीला समाप्त करना
कामवासना
की पूर्ति कर मान्धाता तो अपने महल में वापस चला गया, परन्तु
उसके इस प्रकार के व्यवहार से रानी के हृदय को गहरा आघात लगा और उसने विष खाकर
प्राण त्याग दिये।
विष
खाने से पहले उसने प्रभु के चरणों में विनय की - प्रभो! आज जो कुछ भी हुआ, उस
पर मुझे अत्यन्त ग्लानि हो रही है। राजा ने कामवासना के अधीन होकर मुझे आपकी
पूजा-आराधना से बलपूर्वक उठा लिया और अमृत के कुण्ड से निकालकर गन्दगी के कुएं में
डाल दिया। इसका एकमात्र कारण है मेरा सुन्दर रूप और यौवन। आज, मेरे
इस सुन्दर रूप और यौवन के कारण ही राजा ने आपका निरादर किया।
ऐसे रूप और यौवन से
क्या लाभ, जो आपकी भक्ति में बाधक
बने, इसलिये मैं विष खाकर अपनी जीवन-लीला
समाप्त कर रही हूँ । आपके चरणों में यही विनय है कि मेरा जो अगला जन्म हो, उसमें
मुझे इतना अधिक कुरूप बनाना कि कोई मेरी ओर देखना भी पसन्द न करे, जिससे
कि मैं निर्विघ्न आपकी भक्ति कर सकूँ । बस! यही मेरी अन्तिम और एकमात्र अभिलाषा है।
त्रेतायुग में शबरी का जन्म भीलों के एक कुल में होना
उसकी
इस अभिलाषा के अनुरूप ही त्रेतायुग में उसका जन्म भीलों के एक कुल में हुआ। वह
रंग-रूप में अत्यन्त काली और कुरूप थी, किन्तु
पूर्व जन्म के शुभ संस्कारों के फलस्वरूप उसमें बचपन से ही भजन-भक्ति के संस्कार
विद्यमान थे।
शबरी का विवाह होना
यौवनावस्था
में पदार्पण करने पर उसका विवाह दूरवर्ती गांव के एक भील युवक के साथ कर दिया गया।
विवाह के उपरान्त डोली लेकर जब बारात वापस जा रही थी, तो
दण्डकारण्य में से उसका गुजरना हुआ।
आप जानते ही हैं और आपने पढा-सुना ही होगा कि
भील लोग अरण्य अर्थात् वनों में ही निवास करते हैं। गर्मी की ऋतु थी और दोपहर का
समय-सभी को बडे जोर की प्यास लग रही थी, अतः
डोली रखकर सभी ने वहां पानी पीया। भील युवक जब शबरी को पानी का लोटा पकडाने लगा, तो
दैव-योग से शबरी के मुख से घूंघट हट गया, जिससे
भील युवक की दृष्टि उसके चेहरे पर जा पडी।
शबरी के चेहरे को देखकर वह स्तब्ध रह
गया, क्योंकि ऐसा भद्दा, काला
और कुरूप चेहरा उसने जीवन में कभी न देखा था। उस भील युवक ने अपने पिता तथा अन्य
सम्बन्धियों से इस विषय में बात की। कुछ देर तक तो बारातियों में वार्तालाप होता
रहा, फिर डोली वहीं छोडकर वे सभी लोग चुपचाप
वहां से चले गये।
बहुत
देर तक जब डोली वहीं पडी रही, तो
शबरी को कुछ सन्देह हुआ। उसने कुतुहलवश घूंघट हटाकर चारों ओर देखा, परन्तु
बारातियों में से उसे कोई भी वहां नजर न आया। चारों ओर सन्नाटा छाया हुआ था। वह
समझ गयी कि उसका पति उसके कुरूप चेहरे को देखकर उसे वहीं छोड गया है।
शबरी का घर-गृहस्थी के झंझटों से छुटकारा
यदि उसके
स्थान पर कोई और होता, शायद
रो-रोकर आसमान सिर पर उठा लेता, परन्तु
शबरी न तो रोयी, न घबरायी और न ही अपने
पति के बारे में कुछ मलिनता लायी, प्रत्युत
उसने इस कृपा के लिये भगवान को बार-बार धन्यवाद दिया कि भगवान ने उसे घर-गृहस्थी
के झंझटों में फसने से बचा लिया है और जगत के जंजालों से छुडाकर अपनी शरण में ले
लिया है।
उसने उसी वन में रहकर अपना शेष जीवन भगवान् के सुमिरण-भजन में व्यतीत
करने का निश्चय किया। उसने एक अच्छी-सी जगह देखकर घास-फूंस की एक कुटिया बनायी और
भजन-ध्यान में अपना समय व्यतीत करने लगी। भूख लगने पर वह जंगली फल या कंद-मूल खा
लेती और पुनः अपनी कुटिया में जाकर भजन-सुमिरण में लीन हो जाती। इस प्रकार
भजन-ध्यान में दिन-रात लवलीन रहने से उस पर भक्ति का गहरा रंग चढने लगा।

Although Maharaja Mandhata tried his best to submerge him in the juice of indulgence, but one who has enjoyed the divine essence of God love and devotion, where can he be attracted to the good subject juices.
It is a matter of one day that lust got very strong in the mind of Maharaja Mandhata and he went to the queen's palace under that lust. The queen was engaged in worshiping the Lord at that time. Upon visiting the queen's palace, Mandhata came to know from the maidens that the queen is presently in a place of worship. But at that time, due to the religious work, he was so completely lost that he had lost his discretion and power, so he went inside the house of worship. The queen was meditating on the Lord at that time. Mandhata hesitated for a moment upon seeing her in this situation, but then uncontrollably, she held the hand of the queen and lifted her with a jerk and forced her to walk with him. The queen explained her a lot, but the mind-brain of Mandhata was because at that time the ghost of disorder was riding, so the words of the queen were not affected at all. true-

Meaning: - The intelligence of a human being is always corrupt and he always behaves contrary to ethics. Sant Sahajo Bai Ji says that his eyes lack modesty, because he always walks on the path of imperfection.
Mandhata also had a similar situation at that time. He too had forgotten everything - policy, imperfection, virtue - malpractices, time and untimely, because disorder blinded him at that time.
After fulfilling his sexual desire, Mandhata went back to his palace, but due to this kind of behavior, the heart of the queen was deeply shocked and she gave up her life after consuming poison.
Before eating the poison, he pleaded at the feet of the Lord - Lord! I am very sorry for everything that happened today. The king, being subjected to sex, lifted me from your worship and worship and took me out of the pool of nectar and put it in the well of dirt. The only reason for this is my beautiful appearance and youth. Today, because of my beautiful appearance and youth, the king has disrespected you. What is the benefit from such form and youth, which become a hindrance in your devotion, so I am ending my life by eating poison. It is a request at your feet that in my next birth, make me so ugly that no one likes to look at me, so that I can do devotion to you without any problems. enough! This is my last and only desire.
According to his desire, he was born in a family of Bhils in Tretayuga. She was very black and ugly in appearance, but as a result of auspicious rites of pre-birth, there were hymns of devotion from childhood.
On her debut at a young age, she was married to a Bhil young man from a distant village. When she was going back to the procession with a dolly after marriage, she passed through Dandakaranya. You already know and you must have read and heard that the Bhils live in Aranya i.e. forests. It was summer and the time of noon - everyone was feeling very thirsty, so everyone drank water there with a dolly. When the Bhil youth caught Shabri with a pot of water, the veil was removed from the face of Shabri with the help of the divine, which caused the sight of the Bhil young man on his face. He was stunned by seeing Shabri's face, because he had never seen such an ugly, black and ugly face. That Bhil young man talked to his father and other relatives about this matter. For some time the conversation continued in the wedding processions, then all of them left the doli there and left quietly.
When Doli remained there for a long time, Shabari had some doubts. He removed the veil with disdain and looked around, but he did not see any of the wedding processions there. There was silence everywhere. She understood that her husband had left her there seeing her ugly face. If there was someone else in her place, perhaps the sky would have wept over her head, but Shabari neither cried, nor panicked, nor did she bring any malaise to her husband, but again she thanked God again and again for this grace Gave that God has saved him from falling into the mess of household and family and has rescued him from the tyrants of the world and taken him to his refuge. Staying in the same forest, he decided to spend the rest of his life in the Sumiran-Bhajan of God. Seeing a good place, he made a hut and spent his time in bhajan-meditation. When hungry, she would eat wild fruits or tubers and then go to her hut and get absorbed in Bhajan-Sumiran. In this way, due to the devotion to the hymn day and night in the Bhajan-Meditation, a deep color of devotion started growing on him.
